Challenge #7

In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a wishlist of sorts.

1) I'd love a fic written just for me. My fandoms with pairing(s) are:
Stargate SG-1: Daniel/Jack OR Cam/Teal'c (please do not combine them)
Stargate Atlantis: John/Rodney/Ronon/Lorne/Radek/Carson (in any combination)
CSI: Miami: Eric/Ryan/Horatio/Speed (in any combination) OR Eric/Calleigh (please do not combine them)
CSI: Greg/Warrick/Gil/Nick (in any combination)
Farscape: D'Argo/Crichton OR D'Argo/Chiana OR Crichton/Aeryn (please do not combine them)
CSI: NY: Flack/Danny/Mac/Adam (in any combination)
The Invisible Man (2000 Sci-Fi series): Darien/Bobby OR Bobby/Claire (please do not combine them)
Hawaii Five-0: Steve/Danny/Catherine/Chin/Kono (in any combination)
Three Rivers: Andy/Ryan
Dark Blue: Carter/Dean
Teen Wolf: Derek/Stiles OR Scott/Allison OR Stiles/Lydia OR Lydia/Parrish (please do not combine them)
Crossovers are very welcome.
2) A beta reader/cheerleader. I lost mine years ago when she needed to step away and never came back.
3) Fanart for any of my stories. This can be anything from a scene from within the story or a cover. I have two specific images in mind (one of the scenes in question has not been written, yet) so if you're willing please contact me.
4) I cannot vid to save my life and really would like a vid of any/all of the men in my pairings list dressed up (nice clothes, tuxes, dress uniforms) set to ZZ Top's Sharp Dress Man.

Challenge #4

Since this is the start of a new year, this challenge will be to set your own goals! Of course we can all make large or ambitious goals, remember that small and/or short goals are also good!

I don't really make resolutions anymore because I never keep them. Then I saw someone on Tumblr say that resolutions don't have to be big and serious, they can be small and silly.

So, I decided to make a couple of resolutions.

The first one is to watch at least one of the over 400 DVDs I own a week and post a review of it. I've already done that once (along with a couple of movies off Netflix) and posted the review on TikTok (if the app does go away, I'll post here and probably on Tumblr).

The second one is to make my bed every day. I have yet to do this because I have gotten it into my head that I need to change the sheets first (I really do it's been a while) and before I do that I need to clean my room (don't want dust on my clean sheets!). I had planned to clean my room over the weekend but I had a really rough week last week that bled into the weekend, plus I think I have a cold.

The third one is to get dressed each day. I work from home so tend to stay in my sleep clothes (tee shirt and leggings/sleep pants in the summer and sweats when it's cold). I need to go through my closet and get rid of clothes that no longer fit and the best way I can think of is to get dressed each day as if I have to go into the office. But I haven't done this either.

I know it sounds like an excuse but I'm still recovering from my horrible week last week and my back has been killing me this week. I'm taking things slow and hoping I can start this on Monday (I plan on cleaning my room this weekend).

It's that time again!

The first challenge this year was to update your fandom information. I have never had anything in the bio section of my profile but I added a few things. I feel like it's very bland and like I left a bunch of stuff out, but I did it.

The second challenge was to talk about your fandom origin story. I've told this story a few times but I'll do so again.

I claim X-men as my first fandom because after my brother would read his comics, he'd let me have them. Logan, Remy, and Jubliee are my faves. Then I moved on to what I call bandom because I would make up stories about Adam Ant and the members of A-ha. I also started making up stories about the show Air Wolf. I did not write any of these down; mostly because I didn't think about it but also because I was never encouraged to be creative.

I became involved in my first fandom in 2000 when Sci-Fi (I refuse to spell it the new way because I think it's stupid) Channel premiered The Invisible Man and Farscape. I started on the bboards on the website and moved on to the Yahoo Group for The Invisible Man that a fan created.

From that I moved on to CSI: Miami. Although, I didn't considered myself a true fan until after Tim Speedle was killed off.

In 2000 I had discovered fanfiction.net and was looking for stories to read. I stumbled across several stories written by BJ Jones. One of those stories had Speed as a vampire.

In 2005 I got an idea for a story. I posted it to the Yahoo Group for BJ Jones that I belonged to but no one wanted to write it, so I did.

That lead me to write 86 stories across eight fandoms (88 stories if you count the two original ones).

While I mostly write for myself, I do take requests. I only ask that you take a look at my AO3 first to make sure you like my writing style.

I say this only because I once had someone 'buy' me in a fandom auction and during the discussion phase it came out that I write first person present. They said that if they had known I write in first person (I now also write third person present), they would not have bought me. I felt bad and so I paid them back the money they spent on me.

You don't have to do them all, do whatever you are comfortable with.

Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Search in your current space, whether brick-and-mortar or digital. Post a picture (a link to a picture will be fine!) or description of something that is or represents.

1. Something your favorite character would like:

I never can decide if John Sheppard or Rodney McKay is my favorite character, so I'd say that John would like Rodney and Rodney would like John. ;-P
2. Something that makes you laugh:
A baby's giggle. My daughter is getting married in two months (how the frell is she old enough to get married?!) and I'm hoping that by this time next year we will be expecting a new addition to the family and I'll get to hear a baby giggling on the regular.
3. A fandom place you would like to visit:
I would love to go to Harry Potter World and Marvel studios in Orlando.
4. A fandom creator (pro or not) you'd like to meet:
Neil Gaiman. A former friend turned me on to American Gods and Good Omens (the books).
5. Something you find comforting:
Grilled cheese sandwiches.
6. Something from a favorite TV series or movie from your childhood:
I don't have any collectables from tv/movies from my childhood. Although, I did buy a shirt a year or so ago that say 'The Goonies Bicycle Club'.
7. A piece of clothing you love:
I have a grey hoodie that I prefer to wear when I need a jacket and a t-shirt that I wear to bed.
8. A book or song with a color in the title:
One of my favorite books is called White Wing and when I was a preteen, I read The Black Stallion Series.
9. Something only someone in your fandom would understand:
Lemons are deadly weapons. Especially in the hands of one Cameron Mitchell.

Challenge #4

IceBreaker Challenge! Tell us about yourself. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I was born in 1973 in Dallas, Texas. When I was six months old, we moved into the house I grew up in. Summer of 1987, my dad was laid off and had a difficult time finding a new job. He finally found one with Pennsylvania Blue Cross Blue Shield so in February 1988, we moved to Pennsylvania. After eighteen months we moved back.

As I mentioned in another post, my brother introduced me to X-men/Marvel Comics. I did not know what fandom was until 2000 when I became part of the bulletin boards for the Sci-Fi Channel shows Farscape and The Invisible Man.

That lead me to making an account on fanfiction.net to read stories in The IMan fandom. That introduced me to slash. I was also able to finally learn more about the X-men through reading fic.

After watching the first X-men movie in late 2000/early 2001, I wrote my first fic. And I hate it, so I'm trying to rewrite it because I do like the plot.

Beyond my fannish life, I have a daughter who is getting married in two months (yikes!) to a man I am excited to call my son.

For work, I do data entry (the company calls me a consignment biller) for a gasoline distribution company. I got the job back in 2015 as a temp and went permanent in 2016. This is the longest I've ever had a job.

While I do have a couple of original stories in progress, I don't think I write well enough to ever make it my main source of income. But that doesn't take away from my enjoyment of putting words on paper and sharing them with the world.

Challenge #2

In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

My goals have basically been the same since 2020, although this year I am getting better at actually working on them.

1) Start exercising. I bought myself a walking pad for Christmas. I've only used it three times but I'm working in forcing myself to use it everyday.
2) Eat healthier. I have already cut down on how much fast food I eat. Partially because there aren't any fast food restaurants close to my apartment. But I tend to buy junk when I go to the store.
3) Clean my apartment more often. This one is a bit more difficult because I tend to use the excuse of 'one more episode' instead of getting up and doing what needs to me done.
4) Write more. This one is more or less out of my control since I can't control when I have writer's block.

Challenge #1

Update your fandom information. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have a master post here with a list of my fic. It needs to be updated, though. Or you can go here for a complete list.

I've been in fandom, more or less, since I was a young kid. My brother would read X-men comics and let me read them once he was done but it was never a regular thing. I also watched the X-men cartoon on occasion and so I claim X-men as my first fandom.

I used to make up stories based on things I was interested in. A favorite was putting myself in the main character role on Airwolf (I did not replace Stringfellow Hawke, I was his love interest (had a huge crush on Jan-Michael Vincent)). I also put myself as the main character in The Black Stallion series (here I did replace Alec).

I tried writing a book when I was a senior in high school but my teacher tore it to shreds and I lost interest in writing anything until I saw the first X-men movie and started looking for stories in the X-men fandom.

At the same time, I started watching The Invisible Man and Farscape on Sci-Fi Channel and became active in both of those fandoms and on the bulletin boards. It was the first time I was actually active in a fandom.

In 2001, I started writing my first fic, which is no longer posted anywhere because I do not like it. At all. But I am in the process of rewriting it because I do like the plot.

In 2005, I wrote my first slash fic in the CSI: Miami fandom. And according to AO3, I have since written 87 fics. 88 if you count the one I wrote for [community profile] fandomtrees which won't be available to read until January 11th.

According to AO3, I wrote 107,387 words in 2023. I posted eight new stories, a couple I shouldn't have because they're set in the future of a series I'm still working on but I wasn't thinking and went on a posting spree. And several are still in progress, I'm hoping to finish at least two of them this year.

Feel free to friend me here, or over on my writing blog. Just be advised that I am not here that often. I do have a Tumblr (same user name), but I'm mostly over on TikTok (same user name).

My goal is the same as always. To do better. To be better.

Challenge #13

In your own space, rec three fanworks that you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

1. Taken, kneeling - McKay is talking too much. Again. He’s been talking nonstop for at least the last hour, barely taking a breath and doesn't even stop when he peers at something. He just keeps muttering to himself.

2. Magical Encounters - Stiles works as a phone sex operator and Derek is one of his clients. Except he all he wants is to talk. Until he doesn't. Everything goes to shit after that.

3. Empty Graves - Time travelers who plan to kill Superman never account for Martha Kent in their plans. She may not be the World's Finest, but she's a mother with a shotgun, and all told that might be scarier.

Challenge #6

In your own space, post the results of your fandom scavenger hunt. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Search in your current space, whether brick-and-mortar or digital. Post a picture or description of something that is or represents:

1. A favorite character
I can't choose between John Sheppard and Rodney McKay. Years ago, I was given a John Sheppard and Rodney McKay action figure by another fan. They sit on my TV stand where I can look at them.
2. Something that makes you laugh
I bought myself a Ring camera for Christmas. Once my neighbor noticed, he started turning his head away when approaching his door.
3. A bookshelf
I don't have a bookshelf because all my books are either on my Audible or Kindle accounts.
4. A game or hobby you enjoy
I'm currently playing Merge Mansion on my phone. I also like reading and writing.
5. Something you find comforting
Caramello by Cadbury is one of my favorite candy bars. I really find chocolate comforting.
6. A TV show or movie you hope more people will watch
I really enjoyed the TV show Almost Human when it was on. I was really sad when it got canceled.
7. A piece of clothing you love
I have a shirt that I sleep in, and I have been known to pout when it gets dirty. I also really like my grey hoodie.
8. A thing from an old fandom
Several years ago, I threw myself a Doctor Who birthday party (no one in my life ever remembers things I like enough to surprise me with a cake/party with that theme). One of my presents that year was a TARDIS purse. I bought myself a Tenth Doctor key chain and have it attached to the purse.
9. A thing from a new fandom
I started watching Teen Wolf part way through season three because of gif sets and posts on Tumblr. Then, after the show ended, I got an idea for a fic, so I bought the complete series on DVD.

Challenge #4

In your own space, add something to your fandom’s canon. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I didn't think I had anything for this one, either, but while I was out yesterday, this came to me.

So, in SGA we find out that John Sheppard grew up rich but not how he ended up a Major (then Lieutenant Colonel) in the Air Force.

As the oldest, John's father expected him to take over the family business. But after John's mother died, he starting withdrawing into himself. He spent more and more time in the stables and riding his horse and his father didn't like that.

So, he tried forbidding him from spending so much time in the stables. But John still spent most of his time there. His father ended up sending him to a boarding school and that was the one thing that finally drove John to cut ties with his family.

He went to college, probably the Air Force academy, and at some point while serving, met and married his ex-wife.

Challenge #3

In your own space, Scream Into the Void. Get it all out. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I didn't think I had anything to rant about when it comes to fandom, and then I remembered the fic I'm currently reading.

Dear fic authors,

If you are writing for a fandom based in a country that you are not from, please have someone from that country read it to make sure you're using the correct slang.

For example: the fic I'm currently reading is in Teen Wolf fandom (which is based in a high school in California) and is obviously written by someone NOT from the US.

For those who do not know, in America we call our mothers 'Mom', not 'Mum'. It is very jarring to have an American teenager calling his/her mother 'Mum'.

Also, Americans call their gym shoes tennis shoes or sneakers (some call them gym shoes or basketball shoes, but they are usually older), not trainers. It's a 'sweater' not a 'jumper'. And American high school is ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades (also called freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years) so if your character is home schooled their freshman year, then joins their classmates for sophomore year, they will be the only one of their classmates to not know their way around because the rest of their class would have learned the layout of the school the previous year (unless they were also home schooled).

So, in closing, please dear fic authors, if you are not from America and are writing in a fandom set in America, have someone who speaks American English read it to check your slang and that you are not using any phrases that an American would not use.

Whew, who knew it would feel so good to rant about that?

Challenge #2

In your own space, write a promo, manifesto or primer for your fave character, ship or fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

This is one that I would have passed up in years past but this year, I think I'll give it a go, and I'll use the same method I used to get a former friend to start watching H50.

From the very first moment they shared a screen together, Scott Caan and Alex O'Loughlin had some awesome chemistry.

I mean, look how they look at each other:

There is even a line in an episode where someone asks how Danny (Scott's character) hurt his knee and Steve (Alex's character) says he hurt it falling out of bed (or something like that), implying they were in said bed together.

Both actors have even been quoted as saying they wouldn't have minded Danny and Steve being a couple.

Also, Danny is a single father, sharing custody with his ex-wife and her new husband. Danny's daughter, Grace, is played by the lovely Teilor Grubbs.

Oh, and on top of theses three, the show was filmed in Hawaii, O'ahu, to be exact. It is my opinion that the island is another member of the cast because this show could not be filmed anywhere else in the US.

The show ended a couple of years ago but all seasons are available for free on Paramount+, YouTube (primetime subscription), CBS TVE, Amazon Prime (premium subscription), and for $1.99 on Google Play, Apple TV, and Vudu.

Until recently, my most popular fic was in this fandom.

So, that's what I have to say about H50, one of my favorite fandoms. You should totally check it out.

  • Transformative Works Policy: My transformative porks policy is here.

  • Current Passion: I'm trying to learn how to knit and embroider.

  • Where to Find Me: while I do have a Tumblr, I'm not really there. I also have a TikTok (same username) where I post stories about my life and my weightloss and my attempts to get better at cleaning my house.

  • Master List: While my transformative works policy is in the same post as a masterlist, it is not complete. I plan on fixing that, but for now, you can find all my works here.

  • Anything Else: I don't currently have a main fandom but the ones I write in are: Teen Wolf, SGA, CSI: Miami, H50, Dark Blue, and Three Rivers. I write mostly m/m slash, but have a couple of het stories.

This is another challenge I look forward to every year most years. And this year is no exception.

1) Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken: Teen Wolf(TV) Stiles/Derek
This is a series that I started writing in 2018 and when I managed to get back to it, it broke my brain. When I first posted it, the title story had several chapters showing Derek growing up. I was never happy with the way it read but without a beta, I was/am unable to fix what I didn't/don't like about it. So I scrapped all but the first and last chapter, and ended up rewriting the last chapter.
2) Still Learning to Love: Hawaii 5-0(2010) Steve/Girl!Danny
Sequel to This So Called Life. You will need to read that first.
3) Into the Light: CSI: Miami Tim/Horatio
Sequel to A Walk in the Dark. You will need to read that first. In fact, you might want to start the series from the beginning.
4) What Makes Us Stronger: Dark Blue Dean/Carter
This series is different from anything I have ever written before. Please read the tags.
5) Run: Teen Wolf(TV) Derek/Stiles
Three hundred-ish words about Stiles and Derek playing tag in the preserve.
6) Welcome to the Pack: Teen Wolf(TV)
The Hale Pack has a unique way of welcoming new members after their first shift.
logans_girl2001: (Default)
Today's challenge is the one I wait for the most: post a list of things you would like to receive or see happen in fandom.

1) I'd love a fic written just for me. My fandoms with pairing(s) are:
Stargate SG-1: Daniel/Jack OR Cam/Teal'c (please do not combine them)
Stargate Atlantis: John/Rodney/Ronon/Lorne/Radek/Carson (in any combination)
CSI: Miami: Eric/Ryan/Horatio/Speed (in any combination) OR Eric/Calleigh (please do not combine them)
CSI: Greg/Warrick/Gil/Nick (in any combination)
Farscape: D'Argo/Crichton OR D'Argo/Chiana OR Crichton/Aeryn (please do not combine them)
CSI: NY: Flack/Danny/Mac/Adam (in any combination)
The Invisible Man (2000 Sci-Fi series): Darien/Bobby OR Bobby/Claire (please do not combine them)
Hawaii Five-0: Steve/Danny/Catherine/Chin/Kono (in any combination)
Three Rivers: Andy/Ryan
Dark Blue: Carter/Dean
Teen Wolf: Derek/Stiles OR Scott/Allison OR Stiles/Lydia OR Lydia/Parrish (please do not combine them)
Crossovers are very welcome.
2) I do have one specific story I'd love to read. I would love to read a story where Rodney is forced to kneel at someone's feet. The reason can be completely up to the writer (a forced blow job is perfectly acceptable).
3) A beta reader/cheerleader.
4) Fanart for any of my stories. This can be anything from a scene from within the story or a cover. I have two specific images in mind (one of the scenes in question has not been written, yet) so if you're willing please contact me.
5) I cannot vid to save my life and really would like a vid of any/all of the men in my pairings list dressed up (nice clothes, tuxes, dress uniforms) set to ZZ Top's Sharp Dress Man.

Challenge #3

In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea.

I actually like it all. So long as the characters are recognizable I don't mind seeing them in different worlds.

Most of my stories are as canon compliant as possible. That usually means that the only difference is who I've paired together. I have one story (Rogue) where I ignored a major plot point because I found it to be stupid. I have one story series (This So Called Life) where I changed the gender of one of the main characters. I am also working on a Teen Wolf story that is completely AU (everyone is human and in high school together).

I feel like you can learn a lot about the canon and characters by writing/reading them in a world that is different from the one they normally inhabit.

This year my goal(s) are similar to those from last year. To lose weight, get off all my meds, clean my apartment, and write more.

In 2020, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. My doctor has moved me from a daily insulin to a weekly insulin and I have six different pills I have to take. I would like to lose about a hundred pounds this year. But will be satisfied with fifty. One of my Christmas gifts to myself this year was a set of exercise DVDs and workout clothes. I plan to start working out next week, I would have started sooner but I work in accounting and it's month end, quarter end, and year end and because of the two holidays, we've been working overtime.

I am such a horrible housekeeper. I need to move which means I need to get my apartment clean so that when I find a new one, I can move without being embarrassed for the movers to see it.

As for writing more, I have to train myself to write even when the words won't come so that I can get over this stupid intermittent writer's block.

Where you can find me
