Snowflake Challenge Day One
Jan. 1st, 2020 11:25 amSo it's that time of year again.
Snowflake Challenge!
This year the challenges will be posted every other day so that it lasts the whole month.
Today's challenge is to 'introduce yourself'. I don't think I have ever written a full introduction post, except I might have done so in my LiveJournal profile but I have since deleted that account. So I'm gonna do one here.
My name is Melissa but I go by logans_girl2001 online. I'm in my late 40s and feel like I just finally got the hang of this adulting thing.
I didn't get on the internet until late in the 90s because I was a single mother who moved back home after leaving my husband and my dad didn't even have a home computer until 1997 and didn't get internet until 1998/1999.
I've been in fandom (actively) since 2000/2001 but technically for most of my life.
When I was younger, I really looked up to my older brother and always wanted to do whatever he was doing. This included reading comic books. One of his favorites (and mine) was X-Men and he would let me read his comics when he was finished with them.
In fact, I like X-Men so much that when it came time for me to pick a username in 2001 (I misspelled the first one I had and the correct spelling was already taken), I chose logans_girl (the 2001 is because logans_girl was already taken and one of the suggestions was to add the year) to express my love of Wolverine.
I became active in fandom in 2000 after watching Sci-Fi (I much prefer the original spelling) Channel's The Invisible Man and discovering the bboards for IMan and Farscape. From there I found Yahoo Groups and fanfiction.net.
I attempted to write my first story in 2000/2001 after seeing the first X-Men movie (it sucks so it is no longer posted anywhere).
I then didn't attempt to write a fic again until 2005.
By then, I had moved on to CSI: Miami. I wasn't a huge fan of it, I enjoyed watching it and read a few fics but that was it, until I came across a story that was a 'fix-it' of the writers killing off Tim Speedle (I also wasn't a fan of the character until I read that story).
I started to read just about any story I could find, especially any that had Tim and Horatio as the pairing. Then in 2005 I got bit by my first real bunny.
I have moved on from a lot of fandoms (most are dead or dying) but still write in some of them.
The fandoms still write in are:
Stargate Atlantis
CSI: Miami
Hawaii Five-0
Three Rivers
Dark Blue
Teen Wolf
Stargate SG-1
As of right now, my main fandom (which for me means the one I read the most) is Teen Wolf. I was kinda late to Teen Wolf, I didn't start watching until the third season. And didn't start reading fic for it until 2018 when I got bit by a rabid bunny (that is turning into an epic).
When I'm not reading/writing fic, I'm reading cheesy romance novels. My favorites usually have some kind of mystery behind the romance.
You can find all my fics (minus the one for X-Men) here.
Every year I ask for art for any of my stories during the Snowflake Challenge and it was suggested I make a blanket permission statement.
You do not need to ask for permission. While I would LOVE to know of any art/remixes/sequels/whatever that you've done of my work, it is not required so, please, do not feel the need to provide me the link. Although, I do ask that you post it somewhere where you can identify who the original author is.
So, there's it is. While I do not spend much time here or on my Tumblr, I do check both every so often so you can friend/follow me if you want. I promise to friend/follow back.
