I'm doing a rewatch of The Handmaid's Tale because I want to watch the final season but I didn't finish season four or five (cannot for the life of me remember which season I stopped watching). I was planning on watching it while I work but I cannot seem to get my screen bright enough for the scenes that are shot in low lighting. So it's taking me a while to watch it this time.
I have this feeling that just will not go away that there had been a sixth season a couple of years ago but this new season is the sixth? Is this what people mean when they talk about The Mandela Effect?
It's different watching it this time around because I know how some things turn out. Like I know who to hate from the beginning and who to give allowances to (Rita).
While watching it recently, I wondered what they told the children who were taking from the parents and given to other people (aka 'new parents'). At a certain age, children know who their parents are and they will question being told to call different people Mom and Dad. And what about teenagers? Where the boys sent to immediately begin training to become Guardians? Where girls immediately married off?
We know that Nick is forced to marry a 15 year old girl but is that the youngest age for a wife? And what if a man doesn't want to be married (I know women have no choice)? What if a couple (commander and his wife) don't want children? Is he forced to have a Handmaid?
I'm not sure if there are answers to these questions. Just something that has bothered me this time around.
