I, personally, don't read tags because I feel like they can spoil a fic. If I come across something I don't like, I have to decide if it's worth continuing or not (and that comes down to if I'm invested in the plot and if the writing is, imo, good or bad). But I tend to tag for everything I think might be triggering because that's partly how I lost my last beta.
