As you may recall I work in the accounts receivable department of the corporate office of a chain of hospital gift shops. Our stores are too small for the managers to do the daily cash reports on site so they send them in (or rather they used to). Part of my job is making sure that the amount the stores enter into a webpage we call Store Web is what the bank has verified they actually deposited.

To make sure they're doing this I run a report every Tuesday. We used to have the stores wait until they returned from the bank (or got their deposit slip back if they use an armored car). We've changed it so that they now have to enter the deposits every morning before they open.

This was the first week of the new way of doing it and I forgot to run the report through yesterday. I also forgot to change the text on the emails I sent to the stores (you'll see the text below).

We have stores all over the US, including two in Hawai'i. The oldest of those stores is very good about making sure their deposits are entered. The newest store, not so much.

I sent them an email last week, forgetting that they are five hours behind me (I'm in Texas). The manager sent me an email and stressed the words 'time zone' as if I'm an idiot. I just rolled my eyes and moved on.

So, today I ran the report through Sunday instead of Monday by mistake and sent out the few emails that were needed.

Here is the email that was sent (dates vary depending on the store):

As of 12:00pm (CST) today, the following deposits have not been entered into the store web:

5/15
5/16
5/17

Since you are now supposed to enter each day's deposit in the morning when you review your paperwork, all deposits through Monday should be entered no later than before you open on Tuesday. Please have these deposits entered by end of day today. If there are any days that do not have a deposit, or if there are any issues, please let me know.

Thank you,

[name redacted]

This is the response I got from the store (I'm only posting the relevant part):

Subject: Fwd: RE: Actual vs Scheduled + Bank deposit

Greetings Melissa,
PLEASE take note of the forwarded email from [name redacted].
Effective THIS week, we will NO LONGER be making DAILY DEPOSITS. The deposits drops that you were asking for has been logged, yet, I will ask ONE MORE TIME that you keep in mind the TIME ZONE DIFFERENCE!!! We are 5 hours BEHIND YOU, whiich means that at 12:30PM YOUR TIME, we are not yet in the store.
I am not sure what else we can do to accommodate you in regards to the Daily Deposit Log.

Mahalo,
[name redacted], SM

First, she took my manager, the CASH manager off the email chain and added the FINANCE manager, who has nothing to do with my job. Second, she obviously didn't even fucking read the email because it clearly states that they are supposed to ENTER their deposits daily. It doesn't say anything about MAKING daily deposits. Not to mention, I had no idea they had changed their banking schedule.

And my final response to her:

I do not appreciate the tone of this email. If you will note, the email I sent you is about SUNDAY's deposit which is to have been entered YESTERDAY. That has nothing to do with time zone differences.

I am well aware that you are behind us. I do apologize for sending you that email last week, I got distracted and sent it by mistake.

[name redacted] has told me that you are supposed to enter your deposits into Store Web each morning after verifying the amount to be deposited, regardless of when you actually go to the bank.

She replied back with a passive-aggressive 'I'm sorry you felt that way' type of thing. And since she quoted the last line of my email I have a feeling I wouldn't have gotten that if I hadn't said it.
