Mar. 11th, 2012 11:38 pmAs y'all know I've been unemployed for a long time. I've had numerous interviews over the past several months and I leave most interviews thinking I'll get the job but, obviously, I don't.
Tuesday, I got a call from a temp agency saying they're looking at me for a job in a warehouse setting. I explain I don't have warehouse experience and am told that that's okay because the job is actually a clerical job keeping the inventory. Okay, I can do that. I ask what the hours are and get told it's 2-11, yes, 2pm-11pm. I agree because I need the job.
Thursday, the agent calls back and says they want to see me, and several other applicants, Friday morning. I get up and meet the agent and the others and caravan to the warehouse which is just a few minutes from my house.
I don't feel comfortable at all about any of it. First off, I didn't have a proper interview. Myself and two others, who were applying for the job of picker, sat at a table and just talked to one of the first-shift leads. That's right, I didn't even speak to anyone who knows what my job will be!
When I left, I decided to go shopping, I needed some new clothes and wanted to get my hair cut.
While at the mall, I got a call for a direct hire position. I scheduled an interview for that afternoon.
When I left the interview the woman who interviewed me basically said that if my background check comes back clean, which it will, I've got the job. She didn't call me Friday afternoon, even though I was praying she would. I was unsure what to do about telling the temp agent from the other job but when he called I decided to tell him.
Today, I went to buy some steel toed boots, have to have them for the warehouse job, and while at the store I decided that I just can't accept this job.
The reasons are varied but the main one is I don't feel comfortable leaving Vic home alone for that long at night. During the day is one thing, but at night...no.
So, I'm praying that I'll get a call from the woman for the direct hire job telling me I have it or that when I call she'll say I can start on Tuesday. But either way, I'll be calling the temp agent and telling him I got the other job.
For the record, when I told him about it Friday I stressed the fact that this one is a direct hire first-shift job, even though my main reason is that the hours require me to leave Vic home alone at night.
Please send good thoughts my way tomorrow and pray to whichever deity you believe in that I get the job I want.
