Last Saturday (6/13) I received the following email.

The HR Dept of [Name redacted] has reviewed your resume for a Data Entry, Administrative Assistant, Customer Service, Clerical, Medical billing, Claims Representative positions available. We believe you would be capable of handling any of this positions Available. Your details has been forwarded to the Human Resources. Mrs [Name redacted] , who would be available to discuss the job detail, pay scale, more briefing about these positions available.

This is an immediate hire position,
The briefing and interview. would be done online kindly follow this process to get started,

You are required to setup a yahoo mail account that is if you don't have one, you then install yahoo instant messenger, or Gmail account then download the app from your app store i.e for smart phone or on PC. You could download one from the link provided to download the app .Once done,

You then add or Instant message. via Yahoo on ([nameredacted]@yahoo.com ), Or On Google chat ([nameredacted]@gmail.com) Both emails are available to add, Just so, you get started with the briefing and interview process, Send an email if you're unable to conduct the briefing and interview process. via Instant Messenger.

Those of you who know me know I hate my current job for reasons that don't need to be restated here, now. Suffice it to say they are all very valid reasons.

I called my dad to ask his advice about it and he said it wouldn't hurt to respond. So I did.

The woman who sent the email (I have no doubt it came from her) and I began IMing. I began making plans (not on paper, just in my head). She sent me a cashier's check for $2450. I sent her a copy of the deposit receipt (luckily it only shows the last four of my account number and no other identifying information). The funds were in my account and available this morning.

When I got to work I started to send my resignation notice (found at the bottom) but something made me check the company's website again (I had only verified that the company existed previously). What I found stopped my heart, cold. There on the employment page it states: [Name redacted] does not currently utilize job-placement services or recruiters to fill our positions. All electronic communications sent to potential employees contain a send/receive domain of [nameredacted].com (e.g., jsmith@[nameredacted].com). All live communication is made via telephone directly from our office. The email I received came from one of the job boards I belong to.

I immediately sent them an email (using customer support because that's the only one I could find) asking if this woman works for them. As of writing this (on my break at work) I still haven't heard back from them. When I got home I found the following email from someone at the real company:

Hello [Name redacted],

Unfortunately, there is no current job opportunity. This is a scam that has already been reported to the appropriate authorities for investigation. Do not reply to any emails with any personal information. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns.

Best regards,

[Name redacted]

I then IMd the woman I've been talking to and asked for proof she works for them. Here's our conversation (I left all typos):

I'm not feeling very secure about this job right now. Can you provide me some proof that you work for [Name redacted]? When I checked their website it said that all emails have a domain name of @[Name redacted].com and yours are @yahoo.com and @gmail.com. I do not want to quit my current job only to find this job is a scam.

Sure I am not angry there is always a first time for everything regarding the scam issue,I understand your Concern and worries but i assure you that everything is under control you are with the right company I think this company has been trying their best because there are some bad people out there using companies names for scam and they have tried to use our company name as well all we pray for is to get them and put them to justice and we pray for a better tomorrow

Also, I'm still not understanding why when I was asked to pay for the time clock software out of my own pocket it was $412 and now it's $700. She expects me to wire money to two people for some equipment tomorrow morning but I'm still unsure if this is real or not. She keeps asking me to use my card for the wire transfer and I refuse to do that. IF I do this I'll be withdrawing the money from my account and using cash to do the wire transfer.

Can anyone tell me if this is a scam or not? Because I really want it to be real so I can get out of the shitholes I'm currently in.


Since I had decided to pay cash for the wire transfers I stopped at the bank before heading to my parents to talk to my dad. As I was talking to the teller (probably the only time my penchant to over share worked in my favor) they decided to find out if it's a scam of not.

Spoiler: it is!

So, lesson learned, I guess. *shrug*

And now my resignation notice:

To LC, KS, and JS(new supervisor):

It is with much regret that I turn in my resignation notice. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you for the past three years but the time has come for me to move on with my career.

I feel like I have gone as far as I can with [Name redacted] and have found an opportunity to expand my skill set with another company.

But before I go I feel I should explain my reasons for leaving.

I do want to stress that I did really hope that this would be my last job but because of some of things that have happened it has become apparent that that cannot be.

My dissatisfaction with my job first began in the summer of 2013 when I was working for JS(former finance manager) and JW. I was battling panic attacks almost daily due to JS not being able to decide when I would work for her and when I would work for JW. I very quickly began feeling like I was being set up to fail. It was almost as if they had actually wanted MC for have the job but for some reason felt they should offer it to me because of my seniority. And that they were then caught off guard when I accepted so they had to begin trying to find a way to make me ask to go back to my other job, if not outright quit.

Then there was JS's refusal to allow me to move over to AP. I really feel like she was laughing at me the last time we spoke about it. Totally unprofessional.

And recently there was passing me over for the job that was handed to P for reasons that were beyond my control. I am still recovering from pneumonia and it was affecting my sleep at night until I figured out that I need more due to my ill-health. And the fact that I was behind on RCOs. I was doing three people's jobs in January, then I got sick and I was not allowed to work over time nor was I given any assistance to get caught up (although I was told that I would have help).

And then this last time that I was passed over in favor of A. I was told back when I first started and asked to be considered for AV's job when she left that the company prefers employees to be in their current positions for at least six weeks before they transfer to another one. A was moved to her new position (by that I mean she was being trained) before she had even been here a month.

I feel very underappreciated because of this. I have worked hard for this company for the past three years and I do not have anything to show for it. I am being passed over for promotions and most definitely am not getting paid what I know I'm worth with my experience and skill set.

So it is for those reasons that I tender my notice. My last day will be Friday July 3, 2015.
